The company was founded by August Laube senior in Zurich in 1922 and taken over by his son, August Laube jun., in 1973. The latter continued dealing in Swiss prints (Helvetica) and Illustrated Books (15th to 19th century) while expanding the field to Old and Modern Master Prints and Drawings, from the beginnings to Classical Modern, at the same time. In all those fields, the company continues to be active, now in the third generation. In autumn every year, it publishes a catalogue of Helvetica, paralleled by an exhibition in the premises at Trittligasse 19, in the old town of Zurich. In the fields of Master Prints, Drawings and Rare Books it publishes catalogues at irregular intervals, most of the time in connection with a fair in New York, Zurich or Stuttgart, where the company has been present for many years. It is one of the founding members of the Vebuku (Swiss League of Antiquarian Book and Print Dealers) and a member of the International League of Antiquarian Booksellers.
