Atelier-Galerie A. Piroir is pleased to present an exhibition dedicated to the work of Lucie Jolicoeur-Côté (1932–2025), a Montreal printmaker with whom the studio maintained a close and enduring collaboration for nearly thirty years.

Initially devoted to drawing and painting, Lucie Jolicoeur-Côté turned to printmaking in the early 1990s. Drawn to the expressive possibilities of etching, she studied at the Saidye Bronfman Centre in Montreal before further developing her practice in Urbino, Italy. A member of Atelier Circulaire from 1991 and of ARPRIM, she gradually developed a distinctive visual language in which line, form, space and material played a central role.

Her work combines formal rigour with a strong poetic sensibility. Through etching, drypoint, embossing, chine collé and assemblage, she explored relationships between balance and tension, movement and restraint. Over the years, her compositions moved increasingly toward the essential, allowing line and form to become graphic, sensitive and deeply evocative elements.

Her work has been exhibited in Canada and internationally and is held in numerous public and corporate collections, including Bibliothèque et Archives nationales du Québec, the Conseil des arts de Montréal, Loto-Québec, Hydro-Québec, Énergir, National Bank and Bank of Montreal.

Lucie Jolicoeur-Côté passed away on August 14, 2025, leaving behind a distinctive body of work developed with remarkable consistency, discipline and freedom over several decades.

Through this exhibition, Atelier-Galerie A. Piroir wishes to pay tribute not only to her artistic career, but also to nearly thirty years of creation, exchange and shared commitment to the art of printmaking.
