Since it was established in 1981, Galerie Lelong has always operated a prints department producing limited editions of original works. This activity was part of Aimé Maeght’s original vision as early as 1945 and has been perpetuated by Jacques Dupin, Jean Frémon and Patrice Cotensin, the gallery’s successive Prints Directors. In recent years the gallery’s publishing arm has taken on its own identity, progressively participating in art fairs under the name of “Lelong Editions”. In collaboration with the artists themselves or their estates, the gallery has published catalogues raisonnés of prints by Joan Miró, Jan Voss, Sean Scully and Jaume Plensa, Etel Adnan. Exhibitions are regularly organised, either of the gallery’s own productions or those of partners or artists whom the gallery distributes in France (Richard Serra, Robert Rauschenberg, Bruce Nauman with Gemini G.E.L, Robert Motherwell with the Dedalus Foundation, Barry Flanagan with his estate, David Hockney with the artist himself). A number of partnerships with museums have allowed the Gallery’s production to reach a wider audience: Cabinet des Estampes, Geneva, Switzerland (Pierre Alechinsky) ; Centre de la Gravure, La Louvière, Belgium (Nalini Malani) ; Bibliothèque Nationale, Paris, France (Pierre Alechinsky) ; Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, USA (Sean Scully) ; Museum of Modern Art, New York, USA (Antoni Tàpies) ; Vienna Albertina, Austria (Sean Scully), Zentrum Klee museum (Etel Adnan) to name but a few.
