Acclaimed artist, Julie Mehretu, and distinguished curator and art historian Susan Dackerman, come together for a discussion marking six decades of innovation at Gemini G.E.L. Reflecting on the workshop’s pivotal role in shaping the field of contemporary printmaking, Mehretu and Dackerman will explore the creative exchanges between artist and master printer, the technical experimentation that has defined Gemini’s legacy, and how the collaborative practice of the print studio expands artistic languages.

    While often viewed and studied separately, drawings and prints have always been closely intertwined. They facilitated and generated the production of one another, and in some instances, clear distinctions between the two dissolved. This reciprocal relationship goes even deeper, as innovative artists made fascinating hybrid works that blurred the boundaries between the two media, pushing against modern definitions and hierarchies. *Lines of Connection* charts these historical and geographical continuities, foregrounding issues of artistic process and collaboration, technical innovation, and creative ingenuity with prints and drawings by artists such as Albrecht Dürer, Parmigianino, Hendrick Goltzius, Maria Sibylla Merian, Rembrandt van Rijn, and William Blake. Jamie Gabbarelli is the Prince Trust Associate Curator in Prints and Drawings, where he is responsible for the collection of European works on paper from the 15th to the 18th centuries. His research focuses on artistic exchanges between Italy and northern Europe, on the history of printmaking techniques, and on the relationship between prints and other media. Edina Adam is assistant curator of drawings at the J. Paul Getty Museum.

    Offered in conjunction with the exhibition by the same name at The Frick Collection, *Ruffles & Ribbons: Fashion Plates from the Time of Marie Antoinette* explores hand-colored engravings of French fashion in the late 18th century. Known as fashion plates, the Galerie des modes et costumes français (1778–87) was the largest and most influential series of its kind produced during the period, which documented the dazzling fashions of a pivotal moment in French history. Its remarkable success anticipated the emergence of modern fashion magazines. Yifu Liu is the Anne L. Poulet Curatorial Fellow at The Frick Collection. Previously, he was a doctoral fellow at the Ricci Institute for Chinese-Western Cultural History at Boston College, and he served in the curatorial and education departments of the Morgan Library, Brooklyn Museum, and Princeton University Art Museum.
