Moderated by Britany Salsbury, curator of Nicole Eisenman: A Decade of Printing (Cleveland Museum of Art, 2022), and featuring Felix Harlan, Marina Ancona, and Andrew Mockler, this panel takes the exhibition as a starting point to discuss intricacies in artist-printer partnerships.

    This lecture will shed new light on Degas’s heterogeneous printmaking practice and his fascination with its materials, techniques, and tools. These pictures offer important insight into the artist’s persistent efforts to expand the conventional limits of pictorial illusionism, his frequent intertwining of motif and making, and the central but little-understood role of technical and material experimentation in his larger corpus.

The pair will discuss Glenn Brown’s accumulative engagement with the work of Lucian Freud as fundamental to understanding the citational nature of his etchings on view in (Re)Print.
