Jowita Wyszomirska I Am From the Fields
November 7 – December 31, 2026 · Washington, D.C.

gallery neptune & brown is pleased to present our sixth solo exhibition with mixed media and environmental artist, Jowita Wyszomirska.
Following two artist residencies in 2026: Oak Springs Garden Foundation in Upperville, Virginia and the Marble House Project Residency, in Dorset, Vermont, Wyszomirska brings an exciting new body of work exploring the natural world through botany. In this exhibition, she uses various layered organic processes including eco-printing, natural dyeing, cyanotype, painting, drawing, and collage. Finding inspiration in the 17th and 18th-century women botanical artists, Elizabeth Blackwell and Maria Sibylla Merian, whom she researched at Rachel “Bunny” Mellon’s Botanical Library, Jowita brings new light to the rhythm of seasons and the passage of time.
Jowita is particularly drawn to the processes she can’t completely control. Eco-printing, a process which requires high steam to extract dyes and imprints from plants, is fundamental to her practice and yields surprising results. In allowing the flora to leave their own trace and unique colors, Jowita’s work becomes a collaboration with time, place, and nature, revealing unpredictable wonders.
As nature and ecological issues remain central to her art, Jowita draws on the contemporary philosophical writings of Emanuele Coccia, exploring the idea that life is derived and sustained by plants. Her continuous process involves collecting or observing plants in one season, eco-printing the same plants in the next, and finishing the piece with drawings, paintings, and collages of the current season’s blossoming flora. This process mirrors the cyclicity of nature and the fluidity of time. Much like nature, her work is interconnected and immersive. Her compositions are not made of separate parts, but rather, living systems where the viewer is invited to become part of her creations.
“While making each piece, I fill the space with the very thing that makes life possible by centering the botanical background. Plants shape the world not as a stage for humans, but as a living system where [nature becomes] the heart.” - Jowita Wyszomirska
Jowita Wyszomirska is an interdisciplinary artist working in mixed-media and large-scale installations. She loves walking, cycling, and horticulture, which profoundly influence her artistic practice. Wyszomirska received her BFA from Illinois State University and MFA from the University of Maryland. She has exhibited nationally in solo and two-person exhibitions and has had residencies and fellowships across the globe. Her work is collected by numerous private, corporate, and institutional collections, including recent acquisitions by the Baltimore Museum of Art.
