Chakaia Booker work acquired by the National Gallery of Art, Washington, DC
Ongoing · Washington, DC

The National Gallery of Art in Washington DC has acquired a major new work by Chakaia Booker. In 2024 Chakaia began working to find ways to increase the scale of her graphic works beyond the limitations of the sizes of paper and the press bed. This work purchased by the NGA is one of a group of 4 works that figured out a workaround. These pieces are on fabric, hang freely on the wall, and have a tactility and physicality unlike any other prints she has made. These new works live somewhere between sculpture and print.
If you want to see this work in person, you can! The National Gallery of Art is a publicly accessible collection. Works in the prints and drawings collection can be requested for viewing with advance notice through the study room. Note: The National Gallery of Art is in the middle of a renovation of its study rooms and will reopen them in July of 2027.
