Atelier-Galerie A. Piroir is pleased to present a series of colour photogravures based on the work of Jean-Claude Lussier.
This presentation highlights the translation of his photographic practice into the printmaking medium through photogravure, combining technical precision, chromatic depth, and pictorial sensitivity. Remaining faithful to the timeless aesthetic that defines his career, this series explores the boundaries between photography, engraving, and the printed image, creating a dialogue between the original photograph and its engraved interpretation.
Self-taught and passionate since his early beginnings in 1984, Jean-Claude Lussier has worked for over three decades as an internationally recognized Montreal-based fashion photographer. His image-making approach, defined by great sensitivity, has allowed him to evolve while remaining true to a timeless aesthetic.
Today, his practice focuses on an artistic exploration aimed at blurring the boundaries between fashion and art by merging them. His work addresses themes of presence, corporeality, and poetic tension through a strong and distinctive visual language.
He has exhibited his series Carnevale di Venezia in Italy, France, Africa, New York, and later in Canada through a partnership with the Istituto Italiano di Cultura in Montreal. In 2023, he collaborated with Montréal en Lumière for Nuit Blanche, presenting a revised and expanded version of his Venetian exhibition, produced as photogravures on handmade Japanese paper.
A recipient of numerous Lux Awards, he notably presented Les Hommes of the Night in New York and Montreal. His work has also been included in several collective exhibitions and international competitions, including Le futur (2019) and LensCulture (2021). In 2022, his exhibition Masculinities was presented at Espace Langlois in Old Montreal and subsequently at his photographic art studio in Belgium.
