Almost thirty years ago, Pierre Alechinsky produced at Frank Bordas’s studio in Paris a large lithograph, “Ne fêter ni l’an ni la vitesse”. This is a classic composition by the artist: a central image, a lively imaginary seascape, surrounded on all sides by smaller images that the artist likes to call “marginal remarks”. White paper, black ink, and a red stamp to make the black sing, as traditionally done in the Far East.
This lithograph is the anchor of a set of prints assembled to be shown at the beginning of 2025, to echo the superb exhibition “Pinceau Voyageur” being held at the Villa Empain in Brussels until March 16, organised by the Boghossian Foundation. As Catherine de Braekeleer writes in her preface to the exhibition catalogue: “Yesterday already, and today still, Alechinsky, stands on the alert, bringing us images recounting his world, past and present, created by a brush in a state of reverie”.
