[Indianapolis, Indiana] Andy Warhol: A Life Well Drawn will debut works from Warhol’s last decade, delving into his return to drawing by hand in the 1980s; subject matter captures Warhol’s love of fashion, penchant for books and publishing, and prowess in advertising, among other themes. Drawings in this exhibition have a provenance of the artist’s Estate and were authenticated by the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts. The exhibition will be accompanied by a printed catalog including extensive research on each work.

Two microexhibits of Warhol’s works curated by Long-Sharp Gallery will simultaneously take place in Indianapolis. One explores Warhol’s fascination of celebrity through his polaroid photographs of the likes of Sylvester Stallone, Grace Jones, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, and Russell Means; a second microexhibit offers a glimpse into Warhol’s time spent in Montauk (NY) through his silver gelatin photographs. Each of these exhibits is a testament to Long-Sharp Gallery’s expertise in the life and work of Andy Warhol – inasmuch as one can become an expert in an artist who urged the public to look no further than his art.

The opening reception of Andy Warhol: A Life Well Drawn will take place on Friday, May 5th as a part of the Indy Arts Council’s First Friday celebrations. This reception, from 6-9pm, is sponsored by Conrad Indianapolis and is free and open to the public. The microexhibits featuring polaroid and silver gelatin photographs are located within the hotel’s public space.
