As the Russian troops gathered along the Ukrainian border, artist Olena Mosiyevych and her family moved from Kyiv, Ukraine to the United States in July of 2021. At the time of Mosiyevych’s departure, her work was exhibited at various museums across Ukraine, including the National Union of Artists in Kyiv and the Modern Art Museum in Mariupol. Sadly, as a result of the invasion, her works at these museums are unaccounted for.
“Canceled Because of War” combines Mosiyevych’s recovered Ukrainian work and the new work she has created while living in Nebraska. She currently resides in Auburn, her husband’s hometown, with her husband and two daughters.
Plasticity of line and its pulsating quality create the nexus of her method and meaning. Layers of impenetrable color become openwork, creating a shining effect that reproduces nature as an artist sees it: an energetic state of being, where, as in music, new rhythms of light and harmony emerge.
A portion of the proceeds will be used to support the needs of Ukraine. Currently on view at Assurity Life Insurance, located at 2000 Q Street, Lincoln.
