In this two-part exhibition, we explore the revitalization of woodblock printmaking in the early 20th century and how it evolved and changed after the devastation of the September 1, 1923 earthquake. This seminal disaster had a profound effect on all aspects of life, including amongst the artistic community. The exhibition presents works from before and after the event, contrasting works from both periods by some of the same artists and exploring the interpretation of various publishers.
