About*

The LeRoy Neiman Center for Print Studies is a not-for-profit printshop located in the School of the Arts at Columbia University. Our mission is to provide students, as well as invited artists, a rich environment in which to investigate and produce images through a myriad of printmaking techniques including intaglio, lithography, screenprint, relief, and digital imaging. Since its founding in 1996, the Neiman Center has collaborated with more than 60 artists and published close to 600 editions, many of which have been acquired by museums and private collectors around the world.

Offerings is a cinematic portfolio of nine photogravures with black foiling depicting hands opening and closing in a universal gesture of prayer. The hands are overlaid with text from a poem on the sacredness of wine by Omar Khayyam (1048-1131), a Persian poet and mystic.

on the lower frequencies i speak 4 u is an ambitious mixed media edition comprising both three-dimensional objects and two-dimensional printed work. While a number of the prints in the edition use screenprint as their starting point, the majority rely on extensive hand work including techniques and materials such as photo-collage, stapling and graphite drawing. The edition - inspired by the art, music and culture of Harlem - is the result of the Cordova's personal experience living and working in the legendary neighborhood.

Notepad is a three -dimensional relief which emerges from the wall with printed sheets of composition paper gently unfurling over a miniature model of a fire escape and ladder. Sze noted about this work, "I am interested in an object or image that plays with the state of its own existence. For example, a pad of paper that is carefully printed rather than mass produced or a collage that seems to be falling apart as much as coming together; in other words, its parts are holding the picture plane together and yet still maintaining their identity."
